Hello, readers! This blog will show the progress my son and I have made with recording music and videos together. So far we have focused on doing Linkin Park covers because they are Devin's favorite band.
For each song I load up my digital audio workstation (Reaper) and insert a programmed drum track, plus any applicable synthesizer sections.
Next, I edit the drums and synths together to create the atmosphere and rhythm of the track.
The next step is to learn the song on guitar and record all those parts. I usually play each part twice and send one version to the left ear and one to the right ear. This creates a "bigger" sound than just playing the part once. This is also when I learn and record the bass guitar part.
Finally, when all the parts of the song are recorded and mixed together, I have Devin sing the lyrics over everything else. We shoot the video as he sings.
All that's left is to match the video to the audio and make necessary cuts, then it's on to YouTube for sharing!
